Diwali
This Diwali was truly special for me — filled with warmth, colors, and a few unexpected moments of joy.
My day began with a full-on cleaning spree. My room and dressing area looked like a mini disaster zone, but by the time I was done, everything was sparkling clean. There’s something deeply satisfying about starting Diwali with a fresh, clutter-free space — it instantly sets the festive mood.
After all that cleaning, I took a refreshing bath and got ready for a scrumptious South Indian lunch at my family friend’s home — they live just one floor below mine, so it felt like a cozy family gathering. The food was heavenly, and I might have eaten a bit more than I should have (but who counts calories on Diwali, right?).
Once I got back home, I slipped into a peaceful nap that stretched till 3 o’clock. Waking up to the soft afternoon light felt perfect. Later, Mom and I watched an amazing suspense thriller movie, nibbling on some simple snacks with hot tea. That calm, relaxed time with her was one of my favorite parts of the day.
Before evening, I went out to water my plants — and to my delight, I noticed that my lotus seeds had sprouted! It felt like a small Diwali gift from nature itself. Seeing those tiny green shoots made me so happy; it was proof that my patience and care had paid off.
As dusk settled in, the festive energy outside started to build. The whole apartment echoed with the sound of bursting crackers, and the night sky lit up with colorful sparks. I decorated my home with glowing diyas and even made a rangoli that, surprisingly, turned out quite pretty!
When I went downstairs with my mom, it felt like stepping into a battlefield of light and sound — loud noises, smoke, ash, and fireworks everywhere. It was beautiful but also overwhelming. Sometimes, I wish we celebrated Diwali as “Dipa-Wali”, focusing more on the soft glow of diyas and candles rather than the noise and pollution.
Later in the night, I met my friends — all equally startled by the cracker chaos — and we retreated to my place for our own mini Diwali party. We played music, shared food, gossiped, and laughed until our sides hurt. It was the perfect end to a vibrant, meaningful day.
By the time I went to bed, I was happy, tired, and deeply content. My Diwali this year was everything I needed — a mix of peace, celebration, and connection. (Though, honestly, I wouldn’t mind if it was a little quieter next time!
