Belur Temple
On 6th of May I went to an historic temple called Belur temple. Belur temple was built in the 12th century in the Hassan district of Karnataka. It was established by the king Vishnuvardhan in 1117CE on the banks of river Yagachi. This temple was built over 3 generations and took 103 year to complete.
In my opinion, Belur temple is a beautiful; monument. It is carved out of stone with great perfection. The sculptures did and amazing job with bringing emotion in the statue's faces.
The temple describes many stories and mudras {Gestures} of bharatnatyam. The temple shows many hair styles and cuts too!
At the base of all the walls surrounding the temple, there are elephants, horses and lions. Elephants for strength, horses for speen and lions for courage. Another few amazing facts about the temple are the moving bangle, levitating pillar and the detailed stones.
While taking a tour of the temple, I was awe struck by the carvings and how stories related to the past were shown on the ceiling of domes.
I am sure that you would love to see the temple and visit this precious monument.
